I discovered Lupin III by chance, one night with my friends drinking beer in a bar, and then I saw on the tv an anime show and asked myself \"An anime at this hour?\". At the time, it was common to show hentai late at night on one of the channels, but other friendlier types of anime were reserved for the children´s slot, and the fact that the second channel of the public television chose to air this show at that time made me curious.

This set of four prize figures makes a diorama recreating scenes from the second and most famous season of this show, featuring  Lupin III, Daisuke Jigen, Goemon Ishikawa and Fujiko Mine.

These pages are the cover and side illustration of the second volume of Ura Keiji, a gekiga crime/action work of the mangaka Ura Keiji and writen by Yusuke Yoshida. Published by Hobunsha in 1981 after featured in Bessatsu Shūkan Manga TIMES, follows the path of the genre that was made popular by Takao Saito and Gōseki Kojima.

Collecting animation production material is something that I don't usually do, but in the mid-00s, I got some from the usual suspect (Mandarake), and sometimes it's a little difficult to know what is what . For that , I will try to explain some of the terminology of this material.

1. Cels

\n
   Transparent plastic sheets painted with acrylic paint are used to make frames of animation . Then the completed cels are photographed one by one against a painted background by a rostrum camera onto motion picture film to produce the final animation.

   The cels, dougas, and sometimes gengas have information about the sequence (sequence of animation or \"shot\") that usually has a letter and a number, which indicates the cel layer (A=first layer, B=second layer). If the cel has multiple layers (for movement of the mouth or eyes), the number of the cel in the sequence is indicated (A 2 = top layer of the 2nd cel in the sequence). The first and the last cels of the sequence are called \"key cels,\" and because they are done by the main animators, they are more valuable, as the \"in- betweens\" are handled by other animation staff or sometimes outsourced.
\n

2. Background

\n
   Normally made with watercolor on cardboard and larger than the cel , they are more difficult to find than other production material, as they are reused in various shots and sometimes throughout various episodes . Because of that , there are fewer backgrounds than cels.

3. Dougas

\n
   These are the pre-cel sketches on paper, drawn with different colors and sometimes with annotations for the creation of the cel.

4. Gengas

\n
   Before dougas, main animators created sketches called gengas to provide reference for making the dougas (and subsequently the cels). They can be less polished than the douga. Sometimes, they made yellow paper gengas that are corrections of an initial douga to be redone.

6. Layout

\n
   A layout is a more detailed storyboard frame that defines the composition of the sequence, including background, camera angle , and character placement.

\n

7. Storyboard

\n
   This is the complete view of the episode, with all the sequences, timings, and information for the production company to be able to create the animation. Some have detailed drawings, and some are only references for the action of the scene.

8. Settings

\n
   A compilation of drawings serves as a reference for all the animators, containing all characters, some in various positions, and information about sizes and colors , backgrounds, and artifacts . This part is essential to ensure consistency in the animation.

Do you like S&M? Do you like romcoms? This astonishing figure made by Native was released in 2011, and it has two versions, one in black (the one I have) and one in red. The two versions retailed for 9,000 yen and were sold in limited quantities.

To me, it is one of the most beautiful figures I have, very accurate to the manga, with great sculpting, vibrant colors, and fantastic paint.

This is one of my favorite cels, Sakuragi Hanamichi from Slam Dunk.

This adaptation of the manga by Takehiko Inoue (creator of Vagabond and Real) is in my top animes/mangas, Sports, drama and a lot of humor make this series a fun one to watch. The only catch is that the action (the basketball games) is a little slow, with the typical repetitions and plays going on and on, but the animation is not bad for a 90s show.

The main character, Sakuragi Hanamichi, is lightly based on the NBA player Dennis Rodman, and as a newbie in the game. with 0 experience, and a great deal of self-esteem, thinks of herself as the \"genius of basketball\" and with great effort and hard work gain a place on the team.

This is a fun one. I don't remember why and where I got this DVD, probably I got it from the Archonia webstore in the mid 2000s, and boy, what an anime.

This is a collection of short, bizarre stories (16 episodes of 7 minutes) of some boys and men trying to see some panties. The animation is a mix of over-the-top expressions and realistic imagery, with some weird angles and colors .

The edition is from ADV, region 1 (USA), 110 minutes  and has Japanese audio with subtitles and English dub.

With this first post about manga, and I want to start with the first manga I bought, Ranma 1/2. This year mark 30 years since that time, in September of 1997 when it came to the stands in Portugal, the first number of a +/- 32 pages edition of this title by Rumiko Takahashi.

It was a comic format edition in size, with the pages inverted to occidental reading, and it was short lived, with only 12 numbers published.

\n

I already knew the title as the anime was aired in Spain in 1993 while I lived there, and it was my go to watch before I went to high school. The humor, fighting and \"romance\" made me a fan of this title, and later of other works by Rumiko Takahashi.
