I'm at the Top! - Kazuyoshi Torii

This particular page, is the title page of the 3rd chapter of volume 4 of "I'm at the Top!", a manga created by Kazuyoshi Torii in 1987 for the Big Comic Superior magazine.

I have the complete chapter, but this page, created in color for the magazine but printed in black and white for the tankobon, features a fun image of the main character, Tanaka-kun, "running" to get to the top of the sales charts.

Kazuyoshi Torii was best known for his work in the gag manga genre, with his title "Dr. Toilet" running for 8 years and 30 volumes in Weekly Shonen Jump. In the 80s and 90s he shifted to a more story driven manga, and in 2000 became a university professor.

He died in 2022 at 75 years old from pancreatic cancer.
